Expo 2027 Belgrade at 200 Days: Handovers, Caravan and Roadshows

With 200 days to go, organisers say pavilion spaces are due for handover by 1 December, while the business caravan reached Valjevo and Užice.
Expo 2027 Belgrade at 200 Days: Handovers, Caravan and Roadshows

Tuesday, 27 October, marked 200 days until Expo 2027 Belgrade opens on 15 May. The organisers used the milestone to publish an updated set of numbers and a construction status, and on the same day the Expo business caravan stopped in Valjevo and Užice to recruit local suppliers. For anyone planning fit-out, staging or event services for next spring, the useful part is the timetable rather than the headline figures.

What the organisers say at the 200-day mark

According to the release issued by the Expo 2027 company on 27 October, the exhibition expects:

  • more than 140 international participants;
  • over four million visits during the 93 days, from 15 May to 15 August 2027;
  • about 8,000 events on site;
  • around 50,000 business meetings and more than 175 business events.

One detail is worth noting. Only last week, Expo officials spoke of close to 10,000 planned events. The new release gives about 8,000. Neither statement explains how events are counted, so the gap may reflect a different scope (for example, whether smaller daily programme items are included) rather than cuts. Until the organisers publish a programme, treat both as estimates.

Director Danilo Jerinić summed up the priority as being "ready to welcome the world on 15 May".

Pavilion handover by 1 December: what it means for fit-out

The release says work at the Surčin site is progressing across seven exhibition halls and that pavilion spaces are scheduled to be handed over by 1 December. Transport, security and visitor services are also being prepared.

If that date holds, participating countries and their contractors get roughly five and a half months between handover and opening. For stand builders, decorators, AV and lighting firms, that window is where most of the work sits: interior construction, exhibition design installation, furniture and equipment, testing and rehearsals. Several things follow from it:

  • December and January are likely to be the busiest months for design approvals and ordering, especially for long-lead items such as custom joinery, LED walls and imported materials.
  • Site logistics will tighten as dozens of teams work in parallel. Delivery slots, storage and access rules will matter as much as price.
  • Local presence is an advantage. Foreign pavilion teams will need partners who can react quickly on site in Surčin.

The handover date is the organisers' plan; we will report if it changes.

Business caravan reaches western Serbia

On 27 October the caravan, run with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (PKS), held presentations in Valjevo and in Užice, at the Regional Chamber of Commerce for the Zlatibor District. Luka Živković of the Expo 2027 company presented how domestic firms can take part.

The mechanism is the same as at earlier stops: companies register free of charge on the Expo business platform, present their products and services, and contact international participants directly. Agreements are made between the companies themselves. The areas named as in demand were IT, transport and logistics, pavilion equipping, design, hospitality and construction work on the facilities.

Ana Lapčević, director of the Zlatibor regional chamber, said firms in her district are mostly interested in construction and infrastructure work. Vesna Kudić, who heads the regional chamber for the Kolubara and Mačva districts, stressed bringing concrete business-linking opportunities to companies outside Belgrade. Among local firms, Ivan Stojiljković of Valjevo-based Urban Technics, which makes plastic parts for home appliance manufacturers, saw a chance to work with multinational partners.

For Belgrade-based contractors, this is a reminder that competition for pavilion work is widening to firms across Serbia, often with lower overheads.

Visit Serbia roadshow: hospitality and incoming tourism

The tourism side is also moving. The "Visit Serbia" initiative has already met travel partners in Bratislava, Skopje, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Vienna, with Athens next on 29 October. The aim is travel packages that combine an Expo visit with Belgrade and other Serbian destinations.

For venue owners, hotels, event agencies and caterers, that points to group and incentive travel built around Expo dates. Packages are still being developed, so this is the time to make contact with incoming agencies rather than wait for them to publish offers.
