Expo 2027 Belgrade opens on 15 May 2027, a little under seven months from now. For the companies that will build, dress, furnish and service the site in Surčin, the real deadlines come much earlier. This is a practical calendar of the dates that are already public, pulled together from the organisers, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and Belgrade's transport plans.
The basics first. The Expo runs for 93 days, from 15 May to 15 August 2027, on a site of about 25 hectares near Nikola Tesla Airport. The theme is "Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All". The BIE lists more than 130 participating countries and expects over four million visits; Serbian officials have used higher numbers. The organiser is the state company EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Beograd, run by director Danilo Jerinić.
Now to December 2026: pavilions change hands
The most important milestone for fit-out firms is the handover of the international pavilions. In mid-October Jerinić told RTS, as reported by B92, that the first pavilions would be delivered to participating countries within a few weeks. Earlier planning put delivery of the pavilion units by December 2026.
Once a country receives its shell, the interior work begins: exhibition design, stand building, lighting, AV, furniture and graphics. Many national sections bring in a general contractor from home, but that firm still needs local partners for labour, materials, permits and logistics. For Serbian companies this winter is the window to be in front of those teams, not next spring.
1 November 2026: the site becomes easier to reach
Belgrade's dedicated Expo bus network starts on 1 November 2026. According to the published plan, it rolls out in phases:
- 1 November 2026 – 31 March 2027: four lines, EXPO 2, 3, 4 and 5, linking several city municipalities with the complex in Surčin.
- 1 – 30 April 2027: EXPO 1 and a first feeder line are added.
- 1 May – 31 August 2027: the full network of seven EXPO lines and three feeder lines, plus a BG voz rail service between Prokop and the National Stadium.
- 1 September – 15 November 2027: lines EXPO 2–5 run again for the post-Expo period.
For crews travelling out to the site every day during the build, the winter lines matter more than the summer ones. Jerinić has also said that around 11,000 parking spaces are planned for visitors. Rail is moving forward too: the section to the airport is finished, the next stretch to the National Stadium is due by the end of this year, and testing of the airport–Expo–city link is planned for 2027.
Spring 2027: the crunch months
Nothing official sets a "final fit-out deadline" for every pavilion, and each participant will run to its own schedule. In practice, March and April 2027 will be the busiest months for installers, decorators, florists, furniture rental firms and event technicians. That is also when hotels, warehouses and vans around Belgrade will be hardest to book.
Volunteers are another part of the picture. The organisers say they have received around 16,000 applications from more than 140 countries, against a target of 20,000 volunteers during the exhibition.
15 May – 15 August 2027: three months of events
Once the gates open, the work changes rather than stops. National days, concerts, sports programmes and business forums will run all summer, both on the Expo site and in venues across Belgrade. Each one needs stages, branding, catering and technical crews. Venues in the city, from conference halls to lofts and restaurants, should expect side events and receptions booked by national pavilions and sponsors.
After 15 August comes dismantling. The 45 modular timber pavilions in the Best Practice Area are designed to be taken apart, and that work will need crews, transport and waste management through the autumn of 2027.
What to do with this calendar
If your company wants Expo 2027 work, the advice is simple: plan backwards from May. Get your references, price lists and English-language company profile ready now. Contact the national sections that have already announced pavilion plans, and keep an eye on public procurement notices from EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Any date in this calendar can still move, so check the official sources before you commit staff or equipment.
